Chandigarh: The process of scrutiny for nomination papers in the upcoming municipal elections in Punjab will now be conducted under stricter supervision. Authorities have issued detailed guidelines to ensure that the verification of candidates’ nomination forms is carried out in a transparent and rule-bound manner.

According to the instructions, the scrutiny of nomination papers must be conducted carefully by the concerned Returning Officers. All objections raised during the scrutiny process must be examined properly and decisions should be taken strictly in accordance with election rules. Officials have been directed not to allow any negligence during verification, as even minor errors could lead to disputes later.

The guidelines also emphasize maintaining proper records of the scrutiny proceedings. Necessary documentation and compliance reports must be completed within the prescribed time frame. In addition, arrangements for proper monitoring, including videography wherever required, have been advised to maintain transparency.

The authorities have clearly stated that the entire scrutiny process must follow the official schedule. Any deviation from the fixed dates or procedures will not be tolerated. Officials have been instructed to ensure that eligible candidates do not face unnecessary inconvenience while, at the same time, ineligible nominations are rejected strictly as per rules.

With these tightened measures, the administration aims to conduct the municipal elections in Punjab in a fair, transparent, and peaceful manner.
