Ludhiana: Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain on Wednesday officially released the poster of the First Pro-Run National Marathon, which will be organised on February 15 at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU).
The 5-kilometre Pro-Run will begin at 6:30 am from the university campus. The event will serve as a curtain-raiser to the much-awaited Shaheed-E-Azam Bhagat Singh National Marathon, scheduled to take place on March 22 in Mahilpur.
Addressing the gathering, DC Himanshu Jain said the marathon initiative is much more than a sporting event. He described it as a powerful movement that blends patriotism, physical fitness, and social responsibility. The campaign aims to honour the supreme sacrifice of Shaheed-E-Azam Bhagat Singh while also spreading awareness against the growing drug menace in Punjab.
He emphasised that the Pro-Run marks the beginning of a larger movement dedicated to building a drug-free Punjab. The administration is aiming to connect citizens from all sections of society through this initiative.
The Deputy Commissioner appealed to students, youth, families, government employees, and senior citizens to participate enthusiastically in both the Pro-Run at PAU and the main marathon in Mahilpur. He said collective participation would send a strong message of unity, health consciousness, and commitment toward eliminating drugs from society.
Officials believe that such events can inspire positive change by encouraging healthy lifestyles and community involvement while paying tribute to the ideals of Bhagat Singh.
